Morzine
- Avoriaz and skiing
MORZINE is a traditional mountain town in the heart of the
Portes du Soleil. It is a town in its own right, and not purely
for the ski season. It has a broad range of shops, restaurants,
bars & nightclubs. The ski area rises from 1000m to 2400m and is
mostly between the trees, with off piste powder fields in the Chamossiere
Valley at the top of the Nyon cable car. The town offers many activities
other than skiing including an indoor ice rink, skidoo rides, parapenting,
horse riding, snowshoeing and cinema.
AVORIAZ, accessed via a 10 minute drive in our minibus to
the Ardent bubble, is a purpose built, car free resort at 1800m
offering guaranteed snow throughout the season. It is famous for
being the snowboarding capital of Europe, and regularly hosts
world championship events in its dedicated snowboard park. The
ski area also has huge off piste powder fields and a World Cup
Downhill run.
Le Grande Paradis
The superb variety of skiing from the wonderfully scenic circuit
know as "Le Grande Paradis" where you can ski into Switzerland
and back to France in a day, ensures a great snow-sport experience
for groups of mixed abilities. You can explore 650 kilometres of
pistes which provides links to 12 resorts in France & Switzerland.
Add to this 60 mountain restaurants, excellent ski & board tuition
with crêche
facilities and a huge area for cross country skiing and snowshoeing
at the head of the Vallee de la Manche in Morzine and you will
soon find that this area has a lot to offer.
